Weird and sick-ish.

I thought it would be fun to get to know some New York nurses.
They're adorable- love their accents.
You pay for tv here. $5/day.
I am back in the hospital and I really don't want anyone to know about it.
Seriously.
I don't want to be sick still, so let's just pretend that I'm not.  Ok?  I know I'm weird.

Really, I'm fine.
My aunt took me to her OB and he is great.  The funniest New Yorker ever.  He was thrilled to meet me at 5pm on a Friday afternoon.  Poor guy.  He's been a blessing- it's nice to have a dr I can trust while I'm desperately missing the doctors that I already trust.

I have another infection and some abdominal abscesses (pools of fluid they are not happy about).
My nurse says if it were serious I would be in more pain.
Except last time I had a very serious kidney infection, that was septic, and I wasn't in excruciating pain.
I think I'm just really used to abdominal pain.

For the first day I was completely quarantine.  They thought I had c-diff (a pretty contagious bug).  They made everyone wear gowns and gloves around me.  I felt like a weirdo.  I knew I didn't have that anyway, because my Oregon dr just tested me.  My tests were negative, both times.

Really, I'm just bored laying here watching tv for a few days.  It's not too bad.  They pump me full of saline, antibiotics, and ct scan dye.  So, I potty often.

My mom, my husband, my aunt and uncle are all caring for my kids.  I'm afraid they are all exhausted and I think my mom is getting sick.  It is great laying here watching stupid tv while they are all juggling my life.

Guess what else?
We have two cars- and Todd's is broken.  It has been in the shop since we've been here.  We finally got it back and it's still dumping antifreeze.  Lovely.
Then, on Thursday night Jakob pushed our van window closed and it shattered.
So, two cars were down to none and I was being sent to the hospital.
Our house closing was supposed to be Friday but got moved to Monday.
AND, the hotel we were staying at was overbooked for the weekend, so we packed everything up and moved in with my aunt.
Crazy, crazy!!

I'm grateful to be alive.
Grateful we caught this infection earlier than the last one.
I know I'll be fine, but it will just take some more time.
Next year, this year will be a really crazy story to tell.
Today, I just want to pretend I'm normal.

So, although I'm very thankful for your prayers, please leave me comments about, um, some cute quilt I made in a former life.  Or, pretend my blog shows some fun thing I'm doing with my kids.  Ok?  We're pretending I'm fine.

Miss you!
Hope you were grateful that YOU got to put your kids to bed tonight.
Life is good!

"Oh, the ordinary day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me be grateful while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall fall upon my knees, or bury my face in the pillow, or lie among the sick, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return."

Jen,

You did make lots of cute quilts that I saw in Texas. You were the one who taught me about putting my presser foot down so I could free stitch whatever the heck I wanted. And also you taught me about heat-n-bond lite. Both have changed my life.

So...congrats on the move to NY. So excited to see all the cuteness you will add to your home/life there.

You are normal, normal, normal. What could be more normal American than watching TV and having broken cars? You got this one. :)

Hey Jen, you are an amazing example to all of us who read your blog and most importantly to your family. I think about the hard things your children are seeing you go through with the faith, perseverance, and trust in our Heavenly Father that you do have, and I truly believe they are learning so much from it, and that they will be blessed because of your example. And...I am reading the Little House on the Prairie series and it reminds me of how you read these darling books to your kids, and how you all dressed up for Halloween as the characters! So much fun! I hope you are feeling better soon! We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

from Chris again:

How about a comment to THANK YOU for a most adorable, ruffley, cupcake apron that came on a Wednesday that just happened to also be my birthday :) When the boys saw it they immediately thought of Lily's cupcake shirt and her warning me: "I'm going to make you hungry again!"

Every day my family walks by and eats near the great Burns' Grace embroidery you made for us, with family photos in the matting around it. I still remember what I felt like when I opened it - a surprise gift from an incredibly thoughtful and talented niece. The same niece who sits staring at a $5 a day TV, mentally ready for tackling this new life in NY, but who needs to go easy while her body catches up.

Hospitals, labs, ERs, clinics, yep we have been getting frequent visitor points if there is such a thing. Gee, to bad they don't count it up and give discounts or free night stays. My husband has a pancreatic disease so we check out the medical side of life regularly. Tucking the kiddos into bed and washing laundry are a treat even at 11:30 at night! Thanks for the reminder:)Keep up the good work of healing and inspiring.

Hey I'm in Texas now, but was in New York/Pa a few years ago. You are in for a treat! Halloween in that area is amazing! Everyone joins the fun. I am racking my brain unsuccesful to think where the awesome pumpkin patch is.....thousands of carved pumpkins for an amazing night time tour! And of course leaf peeping was amazing for a girl who had only ever seen green or brown. Lol

Okay, so do you remember the AWESOME quilt you made for us?!? (We LOVE it!) http://toddnjenifermoss.blogspot.com/2008/07/tech-quilt-for-todd.html

Boo for boring about being in the hospital again. Sorry, friend, that things can't be more "normal"... I will try, just for you, to find more joy in the whining of my kiddos, knowing that I am HERE with them. Afterall, I think that's what you would do!
LOVE YOU!!!

I'm a very obedient person, so all I have to say is how fun you are! I sure love your sunny take on life, and your awesome sense of humor.

So, on that note, here are some cheesy jokes just for you -

Q: What does a nosey pepper do?
A: Gets jalapeno business!

q: What do you call an alligator in a vest?
A: An investigator!

Q: What do you call a chubby psychic?
A: A Four Chin Teller!

Q: How do you drown a Hipster?
A: In the mainstream.

Q: What sound do porcupines make when they kiss?
A: Ouch!

Q: What washes up on very small beaches?
A: Microwaves!

Q: What's the longest word in the dictionary?
A: Smiles! There is a mile between each s!

Alright. Kind of pathetic, I know. I'll stop.

Also, can't wait to try that BBQ salad recipe - a salad with meat! I learned my lesson (again) when my husband almost staged a full on revolt when I tried to serve taco salad WITHOUT MEAT last night! What was I thinking?

So do you remember when I first met you at a youth dance?? You told me stories of crazy little boys who ruined your whole food storage? Welli have some stories of my own these days and I often think of your stories. What is great I a, getting better at taking pictures instead of loosing my cool! You made so many cute quilts! Your pretty much amazing!!

Have your kids mix cornstarch and water for hours of fun, it makes a bit of a mess but they will love it!

My daughter was having a bad day last week and I reminded her about an older, rather eccentric dinner guest we had had. She complimented my daughter (who is 12), quite profusely, about how well she turned the pages of a book, how really talented and lovely she was turning those pages so nicely. I slipped a note in her lunchbox reminding her that however inadequate she was feeling, she should always remember that she did have a most excellent talent--she could turn pages nicely! I bet you can turn pages nicely, too, Jen. And, I'd bet money that you are tremendously good at using the tv remote as well. 2 talents!!! Maybe today you will discover a 3rd...
